Frequently Asked Questions
Does Therapy Really Work?
The short answer is yes, but there are no guarantees.
We have seen people overcome pain they have felt for 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and even 50 years! If our word is not enough, and hey, we don’t know each other yet, then there is research that shows that EMDR is a well established treatment for a multitude of psychological issues,* and is endorsed by the World Health Organization(WHO) for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Also, various studies have shown that medication alone is not as effective as a combination of medication and therapy when treating anxiety and depression.
People sometimes wonder if therapy really works because they or someone they know has tried so many things and been suffering so long that it’s hard to imagine relief. It’s also common to feel fear about therapy because of discomfort facing emotional pain, or of investing time, energy, or money.
If you’re considering therapy as an investment in yourself you’ve come to the right place. We encourage you to take a look at this website and see if our philosophy is a fit for you (also take a look at What to Expect in Therapy), and request a free 20-minute consultation.
What to Expect in Therapy
At Innate Health we offer a three phased treatment approach. Phase one includes relationship building, a holistic intake and assessment process, goal setting, establishing safety, and developing internal and external resources. This phase is where you or a loved one will learn new ways to access innate emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual coping skills with the aim of increasing feelings of safety, clarity, peace, and empowerment.
If after gaining coping skills, establishing safety, and building rapport you want to process through your difficulties to minimize your need to cope with symptoms, phase two is where this will occur (It may be recommended from the beginning of therapy that you complete all three phases depending on your goals and presenting concerns).
The third phase is designed to purposefully integrate your changes in order for you to learn to live in harmony with your newfound gains, rather than return to old patterns.
The goal at Innate Health is not to keep a long-term therapy client for the sake of profit, but for you to achieve your well defined goals in order to reduce your suffering and increase your feelings of freedom and aliveness!
Request a consultation to see how this process will apply to you.
How Long Will Therapy Take?
This depends on your specific goals, your availability, your reasons for entering therapy, as well as your engagement in the process. See What to Expect in Therapy for more information about the therapeutic process.
